Bradford Producing Hub – October Update

Published by KalaSangam on

Back in July, we let you know that Kala Sangam is part of a consortium of Bradford organisations and artists awarded almost £1.5million from Arts Council England for Bradford Producing Hub (BPH) – a three year pilot project to test new ways of developing and supporting live performance in the City.

Bradford Producing Hub seeks to involve as many people as possible in shaping the vision for live performance in Bradford and how decisions are made. The first 6 months of the project is all about consultation; to really understand what the role of BPH can, could and should be for artists and audiences living and working here. It is about finding out what you love about live performance in Bradford, what you want to see more of, who you want to work with and what is needed to make this happen.

Taking the time to talk to as many people as possible now, will mean that BPH can create the right programmes, events and initiatives that will run from Spring 2020 onwards. We’ll be sharing information and invitations to talk through all our networks, contacts and each of the consortium members’ channels – so please follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletters to make sure you’re part of what we’re sure is going to be a really exciting conversation.

Let’s Pool

BPH was created from the belief that we are at our best when we work together and pool our knowledge, power and connections. Very soon we will be issuing a call out for artists, companies, community groups, instigators, changemakers and experts to deliver a series of creative events that bring together groups of people to ‘Pool’ their experience, resources and ambitions for Bradford.

Let’s Create

To help BPH make decisions and make sure that the project benefits as many people as possible, over the next few months we are looking for people who might be interested in being part of the ‘Creativity Council’ – a group of people who will help set the agenda and make decisions throughout the project.

You don’t need to have any previous experience of this sort of thing – or equally you might have lots – most importantly you’ll be excited about getting more involved in shaping the kinds of events and performances that happen in your City.

Lets Instigate

Championing artists and their practice is at the heart of how BPH will operate – we know that artists are the best people to help us innovate, push boundaries and to hold us to account. As part of this, BPH will seek to engage a number of Creative Instigators over the life of the project. Properly paid roles for practicing artists, each Creative Instigator will have a different focus according to particular areas of the project, led by their artistic specialism.

The first Creative Instigator brief will be published in the coming weeks, it will be a flexible 2 day per week role for 6 months… if you’re an artist working in any live performance discipline, consider your practice socially engaged, are excited about shaking up the status quo and collaborating with communities from across the city then this may be for you.

Let’s Work

You may have seen our recent advert for a Freelance Commissioning Producer. The closing date was 24 September and we will announce the successful candidate in due course. If this wasn’t the role for you, but you are excited about working on a project that really seeks to do things differently, there will be other roles announced as BPH progresses.

We’re sure you’ll be as excited as we are to meet and work with others who share our pride in the art and creativity that exists here in Bradford and a passion to create the conditions for even more.
