The Cafe West community centre in Allerton requested our support in delivering summer activities for young people aged between 6 and 16. The group had a great time learning singing, Mendhi and making 3D sculpture. They enjoyed the project so much they continued to sing the songs, one of which was about their Community Centre Cafe West. This gave them real ownership of their centre and made them feel like they belonged.
In the half term of autumn 2007 the group therefore met with Kala Sangam again to rehearse and record their work. They produced a CD of the tracks they had learnt, providing an eternal creation to celebrate their work. The disc artwork, CD cover and t-shirts were also designed by young people from the group, who showcased their work at the community event Kala Utsav in November.
