The Poetry Fireside Hour is an unusual approach of attracting customers to one of Barnsley’s oldest established country pubs ‘THE MONKEY’ (Formerly the Eastfield Inn, Hollingmoor Lane, Thurgoland). Local poets and lovers of the word are being encouraged to leave the TV and computers to gather on the last Wednesday of every month around the pub fireside and read their own poems or a favourite rhyme, song, lyric, monolugues etc.

The emphasis will not be on performance just a casual and comfortable environment in the cosy sofas around the welcoming fire. The evening will be hosted by local celebrity and published poet Granville Danny Clarke-known through his musical career with the Foggy Dew-O and art expert role on Channel Fours ‘Watercolour Challenge’ who will introduce and finish the evening commencing 9.00pm to 10.00pm.

However, this month there will be a challenging interaction of poetry and dance  with Geetha Upadhyaya who will choreograph dance to poetry by participants impromptu!

The sessions are free and persons wanting to listen or participate should be at the Monkey for 8.45pm. contacting the proprietor Anthony Youel on 0114-2883594 for details.
