Black History Month
As one of several partnership projects done with Bradford Youth Service, workshops on the theme of race were carried out in areas where race relations and young peoples views on race are a concern. The art work from the workshops made a colourful, thought-provoking background for a Black History Month event held at the Priestley Centre for the Arts. The workshops proved very successful and the artist Pavan Sembi engaged the groups well.
Also in partnership with the Youth Service, cards and lanterns were created in workshops on the theme of festivals. These were displayed at the lively PHAT event, (PHunky Autumn Ting) along with a mehndi workshop, dance and drumming performances from a traditional dancer and two of Kala Sangams young tabla players. This provided a good opportunity for young people to see traditional South Asian art forms.
