Arts in education

Kala Sangams Arts in education projects promote greater understanding and appreciation of the cultural traditions from south Asia through innovative ways and aim to increase awareness of racial, cultural and social issues.

The company has expanded to encompass a full range of art forms and the use of global arts in the wider community and the field of education, health and regeneration to engage, motivate and improve quality of life for some of the most disadvantaged communities.

Our Learning & Access department develops provides life long learning and training through innovative and inclusive artistic activities to address crime, education, employment as well as social issues such as crime and drug abuse. Activities particularly target people living in the most deprived districts, people who are at risk of marginalization, have health issues or are from ethnic minority communities.

The organization works closely in partnership with community organizations, voluntary sector, learning partnerships, LEAs, primary & secondary schools, HE/FE institutions, NHS trusts, healthy living centres etc to address some of the local and national learning & health priorities.

Classes

Kala Sangam delivers regular classes in South Asian and interdisciplinary art forms across the region.

Community Arts

With in our community arts and life long learning programmes we collaborate with wide variety of community groups, encouraging the use of artistic activities to support their development and improve their quality of life.

Holiday Activity/Camps

Kala Sangam's Arts camps are delivered during summer holidays in partnership with local community organisations across and education sector across the region. Over the past couple of years we have worked very closely with Spaces for Sports & Arts initiatives and Extended Schools services to deliver the holiday activities.

Schools

Kala Sangam have gained experience in developing and delivering coherent and progressive experiences, rich in creativity, and extend the skills of problem solving, language and creative abilities of children & young people through interaction with creative practitioners.

Training

Kala Sangam offers a varied programme of creative courses in the community. Participants are developing both creative and personal skills.

Projects Past/Present

September sees the start of our regular music and dances classes in the region. Ourresident dancer Remya Mypalli (pictured) will be delivering classes in Bharata Natyam classical Indian dance throughout the region whilst Avtar Manku will continue to teach Tabla. Classes will take place in various venues in the area.
