NEW! Exercising with Parkinson’s by Ascendance
Join us in October for three taster sessions for people with Parkinson’s in our Exercising with Parkinson’s programme, accompanied by uplifting and enjoyable music. Each class is led by a friendly and highly trained dance instructor from the professional dance company Ascendance.
During our classes we dance, laugh and create connections within a supportive community. It also helps to improve mobility, postural strength, coordination and balance whilst revitalising and reconnecting pathways from body to mind.
Each session starts seated with a stretching and strengthening warm up, followed by balance work, ending with short sequences and social dances. Exercises are adapted for those who prefer to remain seated or supported where needed.
Participants may be learning the Tango, Waltz and Salsa one week, the Hand Jive the next and even be guided around the room for a Ceilidh dance. There is something for everyone to enjoy and we have low to high intensity programmes tailor made for you.
No partner is required, but you are welcome to bring a family member, friend or partner for support. For anything you may want to discuss before the class, please contact the dance instructor Rachel Wesson on 07933 685359 or speak to the instructor who will be available 30 mins prior to the class.
Just turn up and give any of our taster classes a try!
“I was extremely impressed with the way the class was run. Rachel & Emma were inspiring, and I loved the way we did all the dance in small sections to put it together as a whole. Great music, great company, everyone had a laugh, and no one felt self-conscious.”
The programme has been funded by Parkinson’s UK and Arts Council England.
