C.U.L.T Film Night: Talking About Trees
Tuesday 28 April – Film starts at 7.30pm – Book Online
Kala Sangam have joined forces with Reel Solutions again to bring the best of world cinema to Bradford. Taking place on the last Tuesday of every month, our C.U.L.T film night looks to present stories from around the globe.
Talking About Trees is a 2019 documentary film directed by Sudanese film director Suhaib Gasmelbari. It follows the efforts of the Sudanese Film Club, represented by retired filmmakers Ibrahim Shadad, Manar Al Hilo, Suleiman Mohamed Ibrahim and Altayeb Mahdi, to reopen an outdoor movie theater in the city of Omdurman in the face of decades of Islamist censorship and inefficient bureaucracy.
“It is really a film as well that speaks to all of us about what cinema means to us; about the beauty of seeing a film as an audience, of experiencing it collectively, rather than watching it on our iPads, rather than watching it on our cellphones; that the importance of having that with us is so vital.” — Jay Weissberg, film critic
All our film screenings are now Pay What You Decide, which means you don’t have to pay until after you have seen the film.
We want to encourage more people to come and see films at Kala Sangam, more often. Pay What You Decide not only allows you to pay what you can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but also removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a film in advance without knowing whether you are going to enjoy it or not.
Tickets are available to book in advance as usual, but there is no obligation for you to pay until after you have seen the film. You can then decide on a price which you think is suitable based on your experience, which means if you haven’t enjoyed it at all, you don’t have to pay anything.
Please ensure you have arrived and collected your tickets 15 minutes before the film starts in order to secure your seats. At the end of the show, you can decide what to pay, either by cash or card on the door.
