Exhibition: Body Talk by Shy Burhan and Sharena Lee Satti
Launch event: Thursday 30 Jan – 7pm – SOLD OUT
Panel discussion: Thursday 05 March – 6pm – Book Online
Exhibition runs until Thursday 02 April
For many women, talking publicly about their body is a radical act, especially if they are talking positively.
Photographer Shy Burhan and Poet Sharena Lee Satti have joined forces to create an exhibition breaking this taboo and celebrating body positivity. Women from diverse backgrounds were invited to submit three words describing what they love about their bodies before being photographed by Shy. Sharena has written work inspired by those photographs.
This exhibition celebrates women’s stories and beauty, challenging us all to think and talk positively about our bodies.
Tickets for the launch event are free but must be booked in advance. Situated in Kala Sangam’s foyer, access to the exhibition is free during Kala Sangam opening hours (Mon to Fri 9am till 5pm, Sat 9am till 2pm)
During the exhibition’s run, on Thursday 05 March photographer Shy Burhan will be joined by a panel of inspiring women to discuss the relationship between photography and body image in the media. Panel members will include:
Anne McNeill – Director of Impressions Gallery in Bradford
Dr Julia Calver – Chair of Saltaire Inspired and Lecturer/Academic
Jill Boyd – Founder of the Butterfly Project (domestic abuse survivor, Fine Arts lecturer and Body Positivity Advocate)
Kauser Jan – Assistant Head Teacher at Bankside Primary School (teaches body positivity to primary school children)
