Kala Sangam - Bringing people together through South Asian and Interdisciplinary Arts

The overall aim of the Life Light & Colour project was to enhance and develop the educational potential of an exhibition of South Asian art and culture for the purpose of celebrating cultural diversity. Kala Sangam worked with secondary schools from Barnsley and Kirklees to use the exhibition to creatively explore their cultural differences and similarities. The school workshops were documented and the students work provided the material for the creation of a large scale resource Culture Book. The book is now used by schools and youth groups as an aid to teaching the citizenship curriculum in order to eliminate discrimination, stereotyping and develop cultural awareness. The Culture Book travelled between Kirklees and Barnsley Schools to celebrate the diverse lives of the two areas. The following year the book will return to the gallery to be used in conjunction with a new exhibition to generate more ideas and resources. View Past Projects
